The privacy of the Royal Family is in the news: Tampongate, Kate’s nude pictures, and a car chase in New York

There have been suggestions that staff members at the hospital where the Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery in January attempted to examine her private medical information. An investigation is currently underway over these allegations.

It is not the first time that Kate has been exposed to the public that her private medical information have been exposed due to a security breach. There have been numerous instances in which the Royal Family’s right to privacy has been brought into the public eye, including hospital stays, holidays, private phone calls, and car chases. In this section, we will examine the problems that they have encountered over the course of their existence.

Playing a joke on someone

In 2012, two Australian DJs, Michael Christian and Mel Greig, the presenters of 2Day FM, made a prank call to the King Edward VII hospital in Windsor, where Kate was receiving treatment for acute morning sickness during her pregnancy with Prince George. They pretended to be the late Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince Charles at the time.

When Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse who was born in India, was discovered dead on December 7th, it was three days after she had transferred the call to a colleague who had disclosed information of Kate’s recovery.

It was decided to remove the Australian DJs from the air.
At an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms. Saldanha’s passing, it was revealed that the mother of two, who was 46 years old, blamed herself for transferring the call, which she believed to be genuine. He committed suicide, according to the findings of the inquest.

In the aftermath of Ms. Saldanha’s passing, Prince William wrote a letter to her family.

On the first day of the new year in 2013, he wrote a note in which he discussed the “unbelievably sad” passing of the nurse as well as the care that Kate received. “Jacintha and her colleagues looked after us extremely well, and I am just so sorry that someone who cared for others so much found themselves in such a desperate situation,” he wrote, as the nurse’s family later confirmed. “I am just so sorry that someone who cared.”

Pictures of Kate without her tops

There was a publication in France called Closer that released topless images of Kate, which were shot while she and Prince William were on vacation in the south of France. These photographs were published in September of 2012. It was reported that Prince William and Kate responded with “anger and disbelief” and that they believed a “red line has been crossed.”

A “grotesque and unjustifiable invasion of privacy” was how the royal couple said they felt about the situation.

However, Laurence Pieau, who was serving as the editor of the journal at the time, stated that the couple was “visible from the street” and that the photographs were “not in the least shocking.” A zoom lens was used to take photographs of them while they were unwinding outside at a chateau that belonged to Viscount Linley, the nephew of the United Kingdom’s Queen.

On the main page, Kate was depicted sitting at the private house’s terrace without a top on. Her topless sunbathing was depicted in further photographs that were included in the magazine.

The proposals to purchase the photographs were turned down by British media.

A criminal case was brought by the royal family for invasion of privacy, and they were successful in obtaining an injunction that prevents any further use of the photographs. In addition, they filed a lawsuit against the publishers of the magazine, alleging that they had violated their right to privacy.

In September of 2017, a court in France determined that the couple was entitled to receive damages in the amount of €100,000 (about $92,000). Following what they described as a “serious breach of privacy,” Kate and William expressed their satisfaction with the findings and stated that they “wished to make the point strongly that this kind of unjustified intrusion should not happen.”
